Women's Soccer Blanked in Northeast-10 Quarterfinals

BOX SCORE

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - No. 4 seed and host Southern Connecticut State University scored twice in the second half as it eliminated fifth-seeded Southern New Hampshire University in the quarterfinals of the Northeast-10 Women's Soccer Championship Sunday afternoon at Jess Dow Field.  The Owls, who advance to face top-seeded Franklin Pierce in Thursday's semifinals, improve to 12-4-2.  The Penmen, who were making their first NE-10 tourney appearance since 2005, finish their season 8-6-4 overall.

After a scoreless first half, SCSU would get on the board just past the 57 minute mark when Nicole Burton converted a penalty kick to give the Owls a 1-0 lead.  Southern Connecticut would add an insurance goal in the 82nd minute.  An initial shot attempt by Jenna Mallico glanced off the post, but Maria Primmer put home the rebound.

Katie DiDio stopped five shots en route to the shutout for Southern Connecticut.  Stef Young (Natick, MA) turned aside seven shots for the Penmen, who were outshot 17-9, including 13-1 in the second half.
