FOXBORO, Mass. - Troy Maybury (South Portland, ME) and
Mark Smith (Ronkonkoma, NY) each totaled a goal
and an assist as Southern New Hampshire University posted a 4-3
Northeast-10 ice hockey victory over Stonehill College at the
Foxboro Sports Center Saturday afternoon. The Penmen snapped
a three-game slide and are now 3-3 and 2-0 in the NE-10, while the
Skyhawks are 0-7 and 0-1 in the league.
The Penmen jumped out to a 2-0 lead
12:48 into the game. Smith got SNHU on the board at the
game's 5:38 mark off assists from Maybury and Thomas
Ohlson (York, ME). Maybury scored his fourth goal of
the season at the 12:48 mark to give the guests a 2-0 lead.
Bob Bryant (Nashua, NH) and Smith assisted.
The Skyhawks scored 1:54 before the first intermission on a John
Sommers power play tally.
Southern New Hampshire scored both
goals in the second period. Jake Berube
(Spotsylvania, VA) made it 3-1 5:51 in on assists from
Anthony Dercole (Hamden, CT) and Bob
Berwick (Concord, NH). Andrew
Hildreth (Leominster, MA) made it a 4-1 game with 55
seconds left in the period, with Ryan DiBartolomeo
(Leominster, MA) and Jonathan Santos (Lynnfield,
MA) assisting.
The Skyhawks scored twice in the
third period to close the gap, with Bill Harris scoring with 3:54
left to make it 4-3. Stonehill would pull goalie Derek
Chapdelaine for the final minute but could not come up with the
equalizer.
Todd Rowley
(Billerica, MA) made 25 saves in goal for SNHU to earn the
victory. Chapdelaine stopped 29 shots for the Skyhawks, who
were outshot 33-28.
Southern New Hampshire is idle
until next Saturday when it travels to Framingham State College for
a 3:30 contest.
