Manchester, N.H. (February 12) -- Saint Anselm
College skated to a 4-0 win over Southern New Hampshire
University in Northeast-10 hockey action Tuesday night at Sullivan
Arena. The win improves the Hawks to 7-10-3, 3-1 Northeast-10. The
loss drops the Penmen to 9-10-1, 2-2 Northeast-10.
Mike Foley (Medford, Mass.) scored
his team-leading eighth goal of the season at the 12:21 mark in the
first period to open scoring, giving the Hawks an early 1-0 lead on
the power play. Pat Forshner (Natick, Mass.) assisted on the goal.
The Hawks took the 1-0 lead into the second frame.
The Hawks added an insurance goal
at the 11:39 mark in the second period. Ryan Butler (Arlington,
Mass.) tipped in a Nick Wheeler (Nashua, N.H.) slapshot from the
point on the power play. Coleman Noonan (Norfolk, Mass.) also
assisted on the goal. The Hawks took the 2-0 advantage into the
third period.
The Hawks scored their third
straight unanswered goal at the 12:31 mark in the final frame of
regulation. On a two-on-one, John Hennessey (Westwood, Mass.) fed
Butler a pass to shed the defender and Butler buried a shot in the
top left corner to account for the Hawks' third goal. Pat Gallagher
(Framingham, Mass.) also assisted on the goal. Wheeler added an
empty netter on the power play with just six seconds left in the
game, giving the Hawks a 4-0 victory.
Gallagher made 16 saves in his
first career shutout, while Shane Brooks
(Kennebunk, Maine) made 19 saves in the loss for the Penmen as the
hosts outshot SNHU 23-16.
SNHU returns to action Saturday
when it travels to Boston to face Wentworth Institute of
Technology for a 7:30 contest.
