BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - John Frey
(Westminster, CO) totaled two goals and Brandon
Hammermeister (Calgary, ALB) notched three assists as
Southern New Hampshire University completed a season sweep of
Stonehill College with a 4-2 non-league men's ice hockey victory at
the Bridgewater Ice Arena Wednesday night. The Penmen
improved to 10-11-1 overall while the Skyhawks fell to 10-8-1.
After a scoreless first period,
SNHU scored three unanswered goals to take a 3-0 lead in the
second. Frey got the Penmen on the board 1:35 into the stanza
on an assist from Hammermeister. 39 seconds later, Frey
struck again, this time on a power play. Mark
Lodge (Alfred, ME) and Hammermeister recorded
assists. Thomas Ohlson (York, ME) scored the
eventual game-winner at the 16:33 mark on an unassisted
short-handed tally.
The Skyhawks would work their way
back into the game. 24 seconds after Ohlson's goal, John
Durkin would get Stonehill on the board on the power play.
With 21 seconds remaining before the second intermission, Brendan
O'Brien halved the SNHU lead on another extra-man goal.
Troy Maybury (South Portland, ME) would give the
Penmen a two-goal lead 3:27 into the third off a feed from
Hammermeister.
Shane Brooks
(Kennebunk, ME) stopped 31 shots for Southern New Hampshire as
Stonehill generated a 33-25 shot advantage. Mike Manna made
21 saves for the hosts.
SNHU returns to action Saturday
when it hosts Franklin Pierce in a 4:30 contest at The Ice Den.
