EASTON, Mass. -
Second-seeded and host Stonehill College eliminated No. 7 seed
Southern New Hampshire University from the 2008 Northeast-10 men's
tennis tournament by a 5-0 score on Tuesday afternoon. The
Skyhawks improve to 17-5 overall and advance to Thursday's
semifinals, while the Penmen see their season come to a close at
4-8.
Stonehill swept all three doubles
matches and took down wins at No. 4 and No. 6 singles to earn the
win. The closest match of the day came at first doubles,
where Michael Mashkevich and Tim Fayed were taken to the wire by
SNHU's David Spaggiari (Manizales, Colombia) and
Luis Ramirez (San Cristobal, Venezuela) before
prevailing 9-8.
Southern New Hampshire qualified
for the eight-team NE-10 Tournament for the fifth consecutive
year.
