Anthony Chighisola registered a hat trick and Jon Tuttle stopped
all 30 shots he faced to lead Franklin Pierce University to a 4-0
ice hockey victory over Southern New Hampshire University at The
Ice Den Thursday night. The Ravens improved to 4-7-2, while
the Penmen are now 4-6-0 on the season. The game was not a
Northeast-10 Conference contest.
Thursday's win marked the first for
Franklin Pierce in 14 games against SNHU since the Ravens started
playing hockey in 2002-03. The Penmen entered the game with a
12-0-1 record against FPU.
Chighisola got the Ravens on the
board just 27 seconds into the game when he trickled a low shot
past Penmen netminder Shane Brooks
(Kennebunk, ME). He would make it 2-0 at the 10:45 mark of
the period, which would remain the score after one period.
After a scoreless second period,
the Ravens scored just 1:10 into the third frame when Jeff Kasper
scored on assists from Phil LaBreck and Casey Goodell.
Chighisola would close out the scoring at the 7:12 mark with a
power play goal. LaBreck recorded his fourth assist of the
game on the play with Jay Stempniak also recording a helper.
Tuttle stopped all 30 shots he
faced, including 14 in the second, to earn his first shutout of the
season. Brooks stopped 14 saves in 47:12 of actiond allowed
all four goals before giving way to Todd Rowley (Billerica,
MA), who made 11 stops in 12:48 of play. The Penmen held a
slight 30-29 shot advantage, but the Ravens outshot the Penmen 17-6
over the final 20 minutes.
SNHU returns to action Saturday
when it hosts Fitchburg State College in a 2:00 contest at The Ice
Den.
