MARLBORO, Mass. - Host Becker College scored six times in
the second period en route to a 7-3 ice hockey victory over
Southern New Hampshire University Saturday night. The Hawks
improve to 10-11-0, while the Penmen drop to 6-9-0 overall.
William Toomey
(Reading, MA) led Southern New Hampshire with a goal and an assist
while Brandon
Sheehan (Bedford, MA) and John Frey
(Westminster, CO) also scored for the Penmen. Kevin Danie
(Feeding Hills, MA) recorded a pair of assists. Patrick
Bellew and Nate Sayer each totaled a pair of goals to lead Becker.
The Penmen jumped out to a 1-0 lead
4:11 into the contest when Frey scored off an assist from
Andrew
Hildreth (Leominster, MA). Bellew tied the game
at the 9:21 mark for Becker, but Toomey would give SNHU a 2-1 lead
at the first intermission with his goal at 15:35.
It took just 1:07 into the second
period for the Hawks to tie the game as Bellew scored his second
goal of the night. Sheehan reclaimed the lead for Southern
New Hampshire at the 7:59 mark, but Becker would score five goals
in a span of 6:09 to build a 7-3 lead. Mike Caprio tied the
game at the 10-minute mark, while Derek Stabile notched the game
winner on an unassisted goal at the 12:52 mark.
Tony Stoehr made 24 saves for
Becker en route to the win. Todd Rowley (Billerica,
MA) took the loss in goal for SNHU, stopping 12 shots in 36:09 of
action while allowing all seven goals. Shane Brooks
(Kennebunk, ME) went the rest of the way and made seven
saves. The Penmen generated a 27-26 shot advantage on the
evening.
SNHU returns to action Tuesday
night when it travels to Saint Michael's College for a 7:00
Northeast-10 contest.
