WALTHAM, Mass. - Ariel Teixeira
(Warren, R.I.) scored twice in the second half to lift Southern New
Hampshire University to a 2-1, come from behind Northeast-10
women's soccer victory against Bentley University Tuesday
afternoon. With the win, the Penmen snapped a 10-game winless
streak and improved to 4-11-3 overall and 2-9-3 in the NE-10, while
the Falcons now stand at 6-8-1 overall and 4-8-1 in the league.
Teixeira, who leads the Penmen with
10 goals on the season, got SNHU on the board at the 48:46 mark
with a second effort. Her initial shot was turned aside by
Bentley goalie Kara Smith, but Teixeira collected the rebound and
fired it home. Teixeira registered the game-winner in the
77th minute when she took a feed from Danielle
Courtemanche (Glastonbury, Conn.) and lifted a shot that
snuck inside the near left post out of the reach of Smith.
Bentley took a 1-0 lead midway
through the first half when Laura Muise knocked in a left-to-right
crossing pass off the foot of Cheryl Boyd.
Stef Young
(Natick, Mass.) made two saves in the win for Southern New
Hampshire, while Smith finished with three saves. The Penmen
held a slight 13-12 advantage in shots on the afternoon.
Southern New Hampshire closes out
Northeast-10 play on Saturday when it travels to Southern
Connecticut State University for a 7:00 contest.
