HOOKSETT,
N.H.—Visiting Western New England College scored
with just over three minutes left in regulation to force overtime
and the eventual 4-4 tie with Southern New Hampshire University at
the Ice Den Tuesday Night. With the tie the
Penmen even their record to 1-0-1, while the Golden Bears move to
0-2-1 on the season.
SNHU and WNEC
traded goals throughout the whole game, with the Penmen scoring the
lone goal in the first period on a shot from Michael
Slattery (Duxbury, Mass.). The Golden Bears evened the
score at 1-1 a minute and a half into the second period on a goal
from Nico Santaniello.
A goal by
Bob Bryant (Nashua, N.H.) six minutes later would
put the Penmen on top, but WNEC would strike only six seconds later
to even the score at 2-2. With just under eight
minutes left in the second period, Brandon Bradley
(Wichita, Kansas) would find SNHU teammate Troy
Maybury (South Portland, Maine) to take the 3-2
lead. Two minutes later the Golden Bears would
again tie the game on a goal by Mark Joyce. The
Penmen would score the last goal of the second period with 2:34
remaining as Maybury found Bryant for his second goal of the
game.
The Penmen would
hold the 4-3 lead for the majority of the third period until
WNEC's Chris Beaudoin found teammate Santaniello in front of
the net to sneak the tying goal past SNHU goalie Shane
Brooks (Kennebunk, Maine).
Brooks recorded
32 saves on the evening, as the Golden Bears outshot the Penmen
36-23. WNEC netminder Justin Richards stopped 19
shots.
Southern New
Hampshire returns to action on Thursday, hosting Curry College at
7:30 p.m. at the Ice Den.
