BOSTON, Mass. -- Sophomore Ryan Fitzpatrick's
(Mission Viejo, Calif.) goal 8:19 into the third period lifted
Suffolk to a 3-2 non-league college ice hockey victory over
Southern New Hampshire Tuesday evening at Walter Brown Arena.
The host Rams (2-4-1) took a 2-0 advantage into the final 20
minutes of action on the strength of a first period power play goal
by senior Nick Davis (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and a second stanza marker
off the stick of freshman Jason Molle (Stoneham, Mass.), but the
visiting Penmen (2-3-2) evened matters with a pair of tallies that
came just 1:31 apart in the first 3:43 of the final period, as
senior Ryan DiBartolomeo (Leominster, Mass.) got
Southern New Hampshire on the board and sophomore Brandon
Bradley (Wichita, Kan.) squared the contest at 2-2.
Fitzpatrick provided the heroics for Suffolk with his first goal of
the season in a four-on-four situation after taking the draw from
junior Paul Weisser (Longmeadow, Mass.) to account for the final
score.
Weisser collected a pair of helpers in the win for the Rams, who
also received assists off the sticks of senior Joe Drago (Waltham,
Mass.) and freshmen Andrew Flynn (Stamford, Conn.) and Andrew
Monesi (Simi Valley, Calif.). Senior John Frey
(Westminster, Colo.) and sophomore Anthony Dercole
(Hamden, Conn.) assisted on DiBartolomeo's goal for Southern New
Hampshire, while juniors Bobby Bryant (Nashua,
N.H.) and Neil Adams (Gardner, Mass.)provided the
helpers on Bradley's tally for the Penmen.
Junior Jeff Rose (Collinsville, Conn.) picked up the win in goal
for Suffolk with a 25-save effort, while senior Shane
Brooks (Kennebunk, Maine) made 20 stops between the pipes
for Southern New Hampshire as the Penmen outshot the Rams by a
27-23 margin for the contest.
Suffolk heads to Babson Park, Mass. on Sunday afternoon to take on
Babson in a non-league outing that begins at 4:00 p.m., while
Southern New Hampshire hosts Penn State in opening round play of
the PAL Stovepipe Invitational on Saturday afternoon in Hooksett,
N.H. beginning at 4:30 p.m.
