MANCHESTER, N.H. - Pat Greene scored a pair of
goals, including the game-winner with 18.6 seconds remaining in
regulation, to lift Stonehill College to a 3-2 Northeast-10 hockey
win over Southern New Hampshire University at the Verizon Wireless
Arena Saturday afternoon. The Skyhawks improved to 5-6-1 and
1-2-0 in the NE-10, while the Penmen, who were playing their
first-ever game at the Verizon, are now 2-6-2 and 0-2-1 in the
league. The Verizon Wireless Arena is the home of the AHL's
Manchester Monarchs.
Greene's game-winning tally came
immediately after he finished serving a two-minute penalty.
Zachary Cantin flipped the puck out to Greene leaving the box, and
Greene found himself alone against SNHU goalie Shane
Brooks (Kennebunk, Maine). Greene beat Brooks high
for the game-winner.
After a scoreless first period,
Southern New Hampshire opened the scoring 3:23 into the second
period when William Toomey (Billerica, Mass.)
ripped a shot from the top of the left faceoff circle that beat
Stonehill netminder Tyler Jackson over his left shoulder.
Andrew Hildreth (Leominster, Mass.) and
Mark Lodge (Alfred, Maine) each assisted on the
goal. The Skyhawks tied the score four minutes later on a
goal by George DeMello. Stonehill took a 2-1 lead at the 9:25
mark on an unassisted tally by Greene.
Doug Boulanger
(Beauport, Quebec) tied the game for Southern New Hampshire midway
through the second half. An initial shot by Neil
Adams (Gardner, Mass.) was stopped by Jackson, but
Ryan DiBartolomeo (Leominster, Mass.) tapped it
over to Boulanger, who one-timed home DiBartolomeo's pass.
Jackson made 32 saves for
Stonehill, while Brooks turned aside 27 shots as the Penmen outshot
the Skyhawks 34-30. Both teams were 0-4 on the power play.
Southern New Hampshire returns to
action next Friday when it travels to Norwich University for a 7:00
contest.
