WINCHENDON, Mass. - Ryan
DiBartolomeo (Leominster, MA) totaled a goal and two
assists to lead Southern New Hampshire University to a 6-3
Northeast-10 ice hockey victory over Franklin Pierce University
Thursday night at the Winchendon School. The Penmen improved to
7-11-1 and 3-2 in the NE-10, while the Ravens are 5-14-2 and 1-3 in
the league.
The Penmen got goals from six
different goal scorers, as Troy Maybury
(South Portland, ME) finished with a goal and an assist. Frank
O'Connor (Arlington, MA), Brandon Sheehan
(Bedford, MA), John
Frey (Westminster, CO) and Bob Bryant (Nashua, NH)
all had a goal apiece for the Penmen. Anthony Chighisola led
Franklin Pierce with a goal and an assist.
Southern New Hampshire held a 3-0
lead after one period, getting on the board just 1:56 into the game
on Sheehan's fourth goal of the season. DiBartolomeo scored on a
power play at the 13:36 mark, while Frey made it 3-0 with 1:59 left
in the period. Bryant scored 1:40 into the second period to up
SNHU's lead to 4-0.
The Ravens closed the gap to 4-2 at
the second intermission on goals by Shane Murphy and JP Gasparrini,
but Maybury upped SNHU's lead to 5-2 at the 14:31 mark of the
third. Chighisola scored on a power play 2:10 later to cut the lead
to two, but O'Connor potted an empty net goal with 47 seconds left
to account for the final score.
Shane Brooks
(Kennebunk, ME) went the distance in goal for the Penmen and turned
aside 27 shots. Jon Tuttle made five saves in the first period for
FPU before giving way to Ben Siok, who made 19 saves. Both teams
put 30 shots on goal.
Southern New Hampshire returns to
action on Saturday afternoon when it hosts Wentworth Institute of
Technology in a 4:30 game at The Ice Den.
