HOOKSETT, N.H. - Jeff Olitch scored a pair of goals to
lead Wentworth Institute of Technology to a 5-3 hockey victory over
Southern New Hampshire University at The Ice Den Saturday
afternoon. The Leopards improved to 13-7-1 overall, while the
Penmen now stand at 7-12-1 on the season.
Olitch scored twice and was a +4 on
the afternoon. Skylur Jameson registered a goal and two
assists for Wentworth, while Derek Rupert and Martin Winzer each
added goals for the Leopards. Troy Maybury
(South Portland, ME) led Southern New Hampshire with a pair of
goals, while Andrew Hildreth (Leominster, MA)
added a goal and an assist for the Penmen.
Jameson gave Wentworth a 1-0 lead
just 35 seconds into the game on assists from Casey Shade and Alan
Dionne. Maybury scored on a power play for the Penmen at the
7:40 mark of the first, with Ryan DiBartolomeo
(Leominster, MA) and Bob Bryant (Nashua, NH)
assisting on the goal. The Leopards took a 2-1 lead into the
first intermission when Rupert scored at the 16:59 mark.
Both teams scored once in the
second. Maybury tied the game at the 8:09 mark on a 5-on-3
goal, with Hildreth and Bryant adding assists. Wentworth
reclaimed the lead 3:30 before the second intermission when Winzer
scored on an assist from Tyler Medeiros.
Olitch upped the guests' lead to
two 47 seconds into the third period, with Jameson and Shade
assisting on Olitch's 19th goal of the season.
Hildreth took advantage of another 5-on-3 situation at the 14:24
mark to cut the Leopards' lead back to one, but Olitch potted an
empty-netter with 31 seconds to play to account for the final.
Justin Marriott went the distance
in goal for Wentworth and recorded 27 saves. Shane
Brooks (Kennebunk, ME) turned aside 20 shots for the
Penmen, who outshot the Leopards 30-25. Southern New
Hampshire was 3-8 on the power play while Wentworth was 0-4 with
the man advantage.
Southern New Hampshire returns to
action Wednesday when it hosts Stonehill College in a 7:30 contest
at The Ice Den.
