WESTFIELD, Mass. - Ryan
DiBartolomeo (Leominster, MA) and Troy Maybury (South
Portland, ME) each recorded a goal and an assist to lead Southern
New Hampshire University to a 5-3 ice hockey victory over Westfield
State College Saturday evening. The Penmen won their second
straight to improve to 9-12-1 overall, while the Owls wrap up their
regular season 11-8-4.
The Penmen jumped out to a 2-0 lead
after one period. Maybury got SNHU on the board at the 4:42
mark on an unassisted goal, then DiBartolomeo made it 2-0 1:40
later off assists from Jake Berube
(Spotsylvania, VA) and Mac Luciani (Scituate,
MA). The Owls would close the gap to 2-1 at the second
intermission on a goal by Nic Power.
Southern New Hampshire scored twice
in the first 6:03 of the third to extend its lead to 4-1.
Bob
Bryant (Nashua, NH) made it 3-1 at the 2:01 mark, then
Thomas
Ohlson (York, ME) scored at the 6:03 mark for the
Penmen. Westfield State would close the gap to 4-3 at the
11:07 mark on a goal by Jeff Chillson, but John Frey (Westminster,
CO) would add an empty-netter with 24 seconds left to seal the win
for SNHU.
Shane Brooks
(Kennebunk, ME) and Todd Rowley (Billerica,
MA) combined to make 19 saves in goal for Southern New Hampshire,
while Ray Monroe made 15 saves for Westfield State.
Southern New Hampshire closes out
the regular season Monday night when it hosts Suffolk University in
a 7:30 contest at The Ice Den.
NOTES: Westfield
State is in its first season as a varsity program...it last fielded
a varsity team in the 1988-89 season...Maybury has recorded a point
in seven straight games and has multiple points in the last five
contests...DiBartolomeo has multiple points in the last four games.
