SPRINGFIELD, Mass.
- Nikki Muhlberg scored 3:26 into the first overtime period to lift
American International College to a 3-2 overtime win over Southern
New Hampshire University in Northeast-10 women's soccer Saturday
afternoon at AIC Park. The Yellow Jackets improved to 4-3-1
and 1-3-1 in the Northeast-10, while the Penmen are now 3-5-1 and
1-3-1 in the league.
Muhlberg would score the
game-winner in the 94th minute when she buried a
crossing pass off the foot of Morgan Mastronardi. The Yellow
Jackets rallied from a 2-1 halftime deficit, as Sarah Boornazian
tied the game for American International in the 73rd
minute.
The first half saw three goals
scored in the final 5:39 of the frame. Kaleigh
Roberge (Manchester, N.H.) struck with an unassisted goal
at the 39:21 mark to give Southern New Hampshire a 1-0 lead.
Brittney Foley would tie the game for AIC at the 41:55 mark, but
the Penmen would reclaim the lead 42 seconds later when Roberge
converted a free kick from 20 yards out.
Kara Potts made eight saves to earn
the victory for American International, while SNHU keeper
Stef Young (Natick, Mass.) turned aside five
shots. The Yellow Jackets had a 20-17 shot advantage on the
afternoon and a 7-2 edge in corner kicks.
Southern New Hampshire returns to
action Wednesday night when it hosts UMass Lowell in a 7:00 contest
at Larkin Field.
