WORCESTER, Mass. -
Southern New Hampshire University and Assumption College skated to
a 4-4 Northeast-10 hockey tie Saturday night at Buffone Rink.
The Penmen now stand at 3-10-3 overall and 1-2-2 in the NE-10,
while the Greyhounds are now 10-8-1 and 6-1-1 in the league.
Assumption jumped out to a 1-0 lead
10:10 into the first period on a Jon Retelle goal. Southern
New Hampshire would respond four minutes later when Troy
Maybury (South Portland, Maine) recorded a power play
goal. Brandon Bradley (Wichita, Kansas) and
Kent Honeyman (Marietta, Ga.) assisted on the
tally. The game remained knotted 1-1 at the first
intermission.
Pat O'Kane gave Assumption a 2-1
lead 3:11 into the second period on a short-handed goal, but
Frank O'Connor (Arlington, Mass.) struck twice for
the Penmen in a 57-second span, recording a power play goal at the
4:14 mark and another goal 5:11 into the frame. Doug
Boulanger (Beauport, Quebec) assisted on the first goal,
with Maybury assisted on the second. Boulanger would extend
the Penmen lead to 4-2 with his goal at the 8:39 mark, with
Mark Lodge (Alfred, Maine) and Andrew
Hildreth (Leominster, Mass.) assisting.
Assumption would close the gap to
4-3 when Kevin Meehan converted a power play chance with 3:32 left
in the second period. The Greyhounds would score the only
goal of the third period when O'Kane scored at the 11:54 mark.
Mike Mastracci
(Pittsburgh, Pa.) made 29 saves between the pipes for Southern New
Hampshire, while Nick Blanchette made 45 saves as the Penmen
outshot the Greyhounds 49-33. SNHU was 2-4 on the power play
while Assumption was 1-5 with the man advantage.
Southern New Hampshire returns to
action Tuesday night when it hosts Saint Michael's College in a
7:30 contest at The Ice Den.
