Ice Hockey Falls to Assumption 6-5 in NE-10 Opener

WORCESTER, Mass.—The Assumption College Greyhounds posted a 6-5 win against the Southern New Hampshire University Penmen in ice hockey on Saturday evening at Buffone Rink.  With the loss, the Penmen fall to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in the Northeast-10 Conference, while the win improves Assumption to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in NE-10 play.

Assumption would take an early 3-0 lead in the first period on goals from Kevin Glanzman, Curtis Sernoskie and Taylor Larsen.  The Penmen would answer with a single tally at the 19:52 mark as Craig Carbonneau (Medford, Mass.) scored his first goal with the Penmen on assists from Adam Ziegler (Medford, Mass.) and Michael Rotondi (Winchester, Mass.). 

The Greyhounds would tack on two more goals in the second period at the 3:01 mark and the 4:51 mark to take the 5-1 advantage.  Kyle Zobler scored on an assist from Mat Scioli to make it 4-1 in favor of the Greyhounds, followed by a tally from Ross White, assisted on by Marc Labb and Sernoskie. 

The Penmen would then respond with a three-goal streak.  William Toomey (Reading, Mass.) scored an unassisted short-handed goal 6:57 into the second period, followed by a power-play goal by Neil AdamsDoug Boulanger (Beauport, Quebec) assisted on the goal.  Cameron O'Brien (Spofford, N.H.) scored 3:41 into the third period on assists from Bobby Bryant (Nashua, N.H.) and Toomey to bring the Penmen within one. 

Assumption extended the lead to 6-4 at the 6:21 mark on assists from Larsen and Glanzman.  Adams tallied a goal with just over nine minutes left to play on assists from Craig Carbonneau and Ziegler to round out scoring at 6-5. 

Tyler Holske (Attleboro, Mass.) took the loss in net for the Penmen, playing two periods and recording 22 saves before giving way to John Carbonneau (Medford, Mass.) who stopped nine saves in the third period.  Nick Blanchette earned the win for the Greyhounds and tallied 32 saves. 

Southern New Hampshire returns to action on Tuesday, hosting Suffolk University at 7:30 p.m. at the Ice Den Arena.
