HOOKSETT, N.H. - Saint Michael's College
defeated the Southern New Hampshire University Penmen 5-0 in a
Northeast-10 ice hockey matchup Tuesday evening at the Ice
Den. The Purple Knights improve to 4-11-3 (2-1-1 NE-10) and
the Penmen fall to 3-11-3 (1-3-2 NE-10) on the season.
The Purple Knights opened up the game with an early lead, as
Alex Davidson took advantage of a Penmen penalty and put Saint
Michael's up early with a power-play goal 2:49 into the
period. Both teams were scoreless through the remainder
of the period.
Nick Sheehan of the Purple Knights scored an even-strength goal
39 seconds into the second period to extend the Purple Knights lead
to two. Brady Earle later increased the advantage to three
goals with his tally at 14:19 of the second period.
The third period saw two additional goals for the Purple
Knights, with Reave MacKinnon scoring 58 seconds into the game and
Nick Sheehan recording his second goal of the contest on the
power-play at 17:29.
Purple Knights netminder Mike Dizgun went the distance in net,
blanking the Penmen offense by stopping all 32 shots he
faced. Penmen goaltender Mike Mastracci (Pittsburgh, Pa.)
also played all 60 minutes, recording 31 saves on 36 shots.
The Penmen return to action Saturday, February 6 where they will
travel to Rindge, N.H. to play a 7:00 game against the Ravens of
Franklin Pierce University.
