HOOKSETT, N.H.—Fraser Smith tallied two goals to lead the visiting Bears of SUNY Potsdam to a 6-0 win against the Southern New Hampshire University men's ice hockey team on Saturday evening. With the loss, the Penmen fall to 2-9-2 overall, while the win boosts the Bears to 4-11-1 on the season.
Kevin MacLellan collected a rebound off of Mike Arnold's saved shot at the 3:59 mark to put Potsdam on the board in the first period. Potsdam would see goals by Matt Viola and Smith at the 18:14 and 18:34 marks, respectively, to take the 3-0 advantage into the first intermission.
Smith would tally his second goal of the game at the 10:31 mark in the second period. Jessie Ostring and Sy Nutkevitch recorded assists on the goal. With the 4-0 advantage, the Bears would see third period goals by Ostring and Jessie DeLong to round out scoring for the evening.
Ryan Gleason (Westford, Mass.) posted a career-best 51 saves in the loss for the Penmen, shattering his previous high of 28 tallied against Northeast-10 Conference rival Stonehill College last season. Kevin McFarland earned the win between the pipes for the Bears and recorded 14 saves as Potsdam outshot SNHU 57-14 on the evening.
Southern New Hampshire returns to action on Wednesday, January 19, hosting Franklin Pierce at 7:30 p.m. for the second of five-straight home games.
