Ice Hockey Ties Franklin Pierce in ICFCU Shootout Consolation Game

FITCHBURG, Mass.—The Southern New Hampshire University ice hockey team post a 4-4 overtime tie against the Ravens of Franklin Pierce University in the consolation game of the 2011 ICFCU Shootout, hosted by Fitchburg State College.  With the tie, both teams remain winless and set their records at 0-3-1.

Franklin Pierce would take a 3-0 lead after the first period on back-to-back goals by Dino Federico and a goal by Bill Sullivan. 

Southern New Hampshire would answer with two goals in the second frame, as John Humphrey (Charlestown, Mass.) put the Penmen on the board 8:33 into the second half.  Dane Caracino (Belmont, Mass.) assisted on the goal.  Caracino would tally a goal of his own 8:09 later, assisted by Humphrey and TJ Bond (Nashua, N.H.). 

Franklin Pierce would possess the 3-2 advantage into the third period until the Penmen notched back-to-back goals by Humphrey and Charles Wisniewski (Strongsville, Ohio) to take the 4-3 lead. Humprey's second goal of the game, scored 38 seconds into the third period, was assisted by Bond and Frank O'Connor (Arlington, Mass.).  Wisniewski's goal, scored at the 9:18 minute, was assisted by O'Connor and Casey Goll (Winthrop, Mass.). 

With 33 seconds remaining in the third period, Franklin Pierce's Brendan McCarron collected a pass from teammate Brandon Davis and poked it past SNHU goaltender Max Paluszynski (Moorestown, N.J.) to even the game at 4-4 and force overtime. 

Neither team would score in the five-minute overtime frame, solidifying the tie for both teams. 

Paluszynski posted 29 saves in the tie for the Penmen, while goaltender Patrick Dunn tallied 21 saves for the Ravens.  The Ravens posted a 33-25 shot advantage on the afternoon and finished 1-for-4 on power play opportunities.  The Penmen were 1-for-5 with the extra-man advantage. 

Southern New Hampshire returns to action on Wednesday, November 16 when it hosts Stonehill College in Northeast-10 Conference action at 7:30 p.m. at the Ice Den.
