Last-Minute Goal Leads Franklin Pierce to 2-1 Ice Hockey Win

WINCHEDON, Mass.—The Southern New Hampshire University ice hockey team dropped a 2-1 decision to the Ravens of Franklin Pierce University on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at the Winchedon School's Jason Ritchie Ice Arena.  With the loss, the Penmen fall to 0-5-1 and 0-2 in the NE-10, while the win boosts the Ravens to 1-3-2 overall and 1-0-1 in league play.

After a scoreless first period, SNHU's Tyler Pascucci (North Reading, Mass.) would open scoring at the 16:05 mark on a shot from the top of the left circle.  Douglas Haskins (Quincy, Mass.) assisted on the goal. 

The Penmen would carry the 1-0 lead into the third period, where Franklin Pierce would even the score at 1-1 at the 10:50 mark on Tyler Cornele's third goal of the season.  Assisting on the goal was Patrick Shortt and Brendan FitzPatrick. 

With five seconds remaining in regulation and on a power play, Franklin Pierce's Michael Carr would score the game-winning goal by collecting a rebound at the top of the crease and placing the puck past SNHU goaltender Tyler Holske (Attleboro, Mass.). 

Holske tallied 29 saves in net for the Penmen.  Ravens goaltender Dave O'Brien recorded 21 saves in the win for Franklin Pierce.  The Ravens finished 1-for-5 on the power play, while SNHU did not score with the extra man advantage in four attempts. 

Southern New Hampshire returns to action on Tuesday when it travels to Suffolk for an 8:00 p.m. non-conference matchup.
