Penmen Hockey Concludes Regular Season with Overtime Win

FRAMINGHAM, Mass.—Trevor Nelson (Exeter, N.H.) scored the game-winning goal with 2:38 remaining in overtime to lead the Southern New Hampshire University ice hockey team to a 4-3 non-conference win over the Framingham State Rams on Tuesday evening.  With the win, the Penmen improve to 5-16-2, while the loss drops the Rams 4-17-1. 

Nelson connected on passes from Tyler Pascucci (North Attleboro, Mass.) and Adam Ziegler (Medford, Mass.) to score the sudden-victory goal on overtime. 

Framingham would score first in the game as Daniel Miressi tallied his 18th goal of the season 32 seconds into the first period to give the Rams the 1-0 lead.  Brandon Sheehan (Bedford, Mass.) would even it at 1-1 at the 19:41 mark, as he scored his seventh goal of the season on the power play, assisted by Pascucci and Ziegler. 

The Rams would add their second goal of the game at the 17:22 mark of the second frame on assists by Aran Ward and Thomas Manning. 

Down 2-1 entering the third period, the Penmen scored back-to-back goals to take the 3-2 advantage.  Sheehan connected on passes from Pascucci and Neil Adams (Gardner, Mass.) 15 ticks into the period, then Ziegler scored his third goal of the season on the power play, with assists credited to Sheehan and Craig Carbonneau (Medford, Mass.).

With 11:42 remaining in the third period, Framingham's Thomas Tracy scored his first goal of the season, assisted by Ward and Peter Baldwin, to even the score and 3-3 and force overtime. 

Tyler Holske (Attleboro, Mass.) played 27:03 in net for the Penmen and tallied 13 saves before giving way to Ryan Gleason (Westford, Mass.), who made 16 saves en route to the win.  Todd Rowley recorded 41 saves in the loss for the Rams as Southern New Hampshire outshot Framingham 45-32 on the evening.  The Penmen finished the evening 2-for-8 on the power play, while the Rams went 1-for-3 with the extra-man advantage. 

Southern New Hampshire returns to action on Saturday, February 26 in the first round of the Northeast-10 Championship.  The sixth seeded Penmen are slated to travel to face the fourth seed Franklin Pierce Ravens.  Game time is too be decided.
