Bentley Rallies for Second Straight NE-10 Men's Tennis Championship

GOFFSTOWN, N.H. – Third-seeded Bentley University took down the final two singles matches of the evening as it rallied for its second straight Northeast-10 Conference men's tennis tournament title, downing top-seeded Southern New Hampshire University 5-4 at the Allard Center Saturday.  The Falcons, who avenged their 6-3 loss to SNHU during the regular season, improve to 13-7 and earn the NE-10's automatic bid to next week's NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Championship.  The Penmen saw an eight-match win streak snapped and are now 12-6 and will await word of a possible at-large bid to the NCAA field.

Down 4-3, Bentley captured victories at fifth and sixth singles to claim its fifth overall NE-10 tournament crown.  Andrew Waddington took a 6-3, 6-2 win over John Niland (Cheshire, Conn.) at No. 6, while Victor Suski clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 5 over Tim Hamilton (Hampton, N.H.).

Bentley trailed 2-1 after doubles play.  SNHU's Juan Arango-Campo (Armenia Quindio, Colombia) and Alex Mukdaprakorn (Hartford, Conn.) were 8-5 winners at No. 1, while Bentley's Alec Spycher and Zach Tuckman were 8-0 winners at No. 2.  In third doubles, Niland and Hamilton rallied from a 5-2 deficit to post an 8-6 win over Suski and Waddington.

The Falcons took a 3-2 lead as they claimed the first two points of singles play.  Ribeiro was a 6-3, 6-3 winner at No. 3, while Spycher took a 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 4.

Southern New Hampshire retook the lead as it posted wins at first and second singles.  Arango-Campo tied the match with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Tuckman at No. 2, while Northeast-10 Player of the Year Mitchell Dobek (Westfield, Mass.) avenged his only singles defeat during conference play, besting Lucas Wever 7-6 (7-1), 7-6 (8-6).

Southern New Hampshire was making its first-ever appearance in the Northeast-10 championship match.  The Penmen captured a share of their first-ever NE-10 regular-season title, finishing in a three-way tie for first with Bentley and Merrimack at 10-1.
