NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – Southern New Hampshire University closed out the regular season with an 8-1 Northeast-10 men's tennis victory over American International College in a match played at Smith College Saturday afternoon. The Penmen won their sixth match in a row to improve to 10-5 overall and 10-1 in NE-10 play, while the Yellow Jackets are now 0-9 and 0-7 in the league.
SNHU will return to action in the first round of the Northeast-10 tournament on Tuesday, April 19 with a home match. The Penmen are assured at least the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament, but with a loss by Merrimack College in any of its three remaining league matches, Southern New Hampshire would grab a share of the NE-10 regular season title and possibly the top seed.
In singles play, Stephen Ratte (Danville, N.H.) made his collegiate debut and was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over AIC's Andrew Rousseau. In doubles play, Ryan Hussey (Stratham, N.H.) and Matt Mercier (Pelham, N.H.) saw their first action of the season, but fell 8-1 at No. 3.
