WALTHAM, Mass. –Third-seeded Bentley University jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles play en route to a 5-0 win over No. 6 seed Southern New Hampshire University in the first round of the NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Championship Monday morning. The Falcons improve to 14-7 overall and advance to Tuesday's second round, while the Penmen, who were making their first NCAA tourney appearance in program history, see their season come to a close at 12-7.
In doubles play, Bentley's Rodrigo Ribeiro and Lucas Wever were 8-6 winners over Juan Arango-Campo (Armenia Quindio, Colombia) and Alex Mukdaprakorn (Hartford, Conn.) at No. 1. Alec Spycher and Zach Tuckman were 8-4 winners at No. 2 over Mitchell Dobek (Westfield, Mass.) and Jared Wright (Norwell, Mass.), while SNHU's Tim Hamilton (Hampton, N.H.) and John Niland (Cheshire, Conn.) fell 8-5 to Victor Suski and Andrew Waddington.
In singles, Spycher was a 6-1, 6-0 winner at No. 4, while Suski posted a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 5.
The SNHU men's team set a program record for victories in 2010-11.
