BRIDGEPORT, Conn.—Kasey Kenny tallied two goals to lead the No. 7 University of Bridgeport to a 3-1 win over the visiting Penmen of Southern New Hampshire University on Wednesday evening in non-conference play. With the loss, the Penmen fall to 2-3-0 overall, while the win boosts the Purple Knights to improve to 4-0-0.
Bridgeport would take the 1-0 lead in the 32nd minute of the game as Kenny collected a header from a SNHU defender and fired it past SNHU goalkeeper Maggie Weldon (Manchester, N.H.). The Purple Knights would carry the lead into halftime.
SNHU evened the score at 1-1 in the 55th minute of the game, as Sunshine Yang (Saint Paul, Minn.) crossed the ball to the left side of the box to find Ashley Jaskula (Palmer, Mass.), who tallied her first goal of the season.
Back-to-back goals by Bridgeport in the 76th and 80th minutes would give the Purple Knights the 3-1 advantage. Gabby Trombley tallied her first goal of the season on an assist by Katie Stanley to put the Purple Knights up 2-1, and Kenny scored her second goal of the game on a header crossed by teammate Giuana Prugger.
Weldon recorded three saves in the loss for the Penmen, while Bridgeport goalkeeper Julia Hannson posted three saves for the win. The Purple Knights outshot the Penmen 15-7 on the evening.
Southern New Hampshire returns to action on Saturday when it hosts C.W. Post in non-conference action at 1:00 p.m.
