Box Score EASTON, Mass. – The Southern New Hampshire University ice hockey team dropped its season opener at Stonehill College Wednesday night. The Skyhawks defeated the Penmen 4-1 in Northeast-10 Conference action. The Penmen are now 0-1, while Stonehill is 3-4.
Sophomore Steven Berry (Ashburn, Va.) scored the lone Penmen goal that came in a power play at 16:53 in the first period. Dana Borges would score the go-ahead goal midway through the second period for the Skyhawks. Borges' goal would prove to be the game-winner for Stonehill as the Penmen, who outshot the Skyhawks in two out of three periods, would not score again.
The Penmen entered the third period trailing just 2-1 to the Skyhawks. However, Stonehill would solidify the win in the third period when Bryan Rooney converted twice at the 12:08 mark and 17:27 mark for his third and fourth goal of the season, and to put the Skyhawks ahead 4-1.
Junior goaltender Tyler Holske (Attleboro, Mass.) recorded a game-high 34 saves for the Penmen. Chris Tasiopoulos contributed 27 saves for the Skyhawks en route to the win. SNHU outshot Stonehill 39-38 and converted on one out of three power plays.
The Penmen return to action Tuesday, November 20 when they open up their home slate against Suffolk University for a 7:00 p.m. non-conference matchup.
