Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. – The Southern New Hampshire ice hockey team tied Northeast-10 Conference opponent Assumption College on the road Tuesday night with a score of 3-3. The tie puts the Penmen at 2-4-2 overall, and 0-1-1 in the league, while Assumption is now 2-10-1.
Mike Rotondi (Winchester, Mass.) put SNHU on the scoreboard when he notched an early first period goal at the 16:23 mark for his second score of the season from Charles Wisniewski (Strongsville, Ohio). Assumption would match Rotondi's goal when Brennan Shaw scored just three minutes later to tie the game at 1-1. However, with 8:01 left to play in the period, SNHU's Dane Caracino (Belmont, Mass.) would net an unassisted goal to put the Penmen ahead 2-1 to end the period.
Scoring remained idle in the second period, however, Joe Collins (Mansfield, Mass.) would score a Penmen power play goal just two minutes into the third period to give SNHU a 3-1 lead over the Greyhounds. But back-to-back Assumption scores would prove to be the equalizers as the Greyhounds tied the game at 3-3 to end regulation.
Despite outshooting Assumption 7-3 in the overtime period, neither team could convert for a game-winner.
Goaltender Tyler Holske (Attleboro, Mass.) stopped 27 shots, while Greyhounds goalie Chris Hemhauser saved 43. SNHU had six power play opportunities while Assumption saw five, each team converted on one.
The Penmen return to action on Saturday, December 8 when they host Johnson and Wales University for a non-conference game slated for 7:30 p.m.
