Ice Hockey Battles Assumption to 6-4 Final

HOOKSETT, N.H.—The Southern New Hampshire University ice hockey team dropped a 6-4 Northeast-10 Conference matchup to Assumption College on Saturday afternoon at the Ice Den Arena.  With the loss, the Penmen fall to 1-17-1 overall and 0-8-0 in NE-10 action, while the win boosts the visiting Greyhounds to 10-8-1 overall and 6-2-1 in league play. 

Both teams would notch three goals each in the first period, as Assumption took the early 1-0 lead on a goal by Keven Meehan 1:14 into the period.  Michael Rotondi (Winchester, Mass.) would even the score at 1-1 almost five minutes later, and Steven Berry (Ashburn, Va.) would give the Penmen the 2-1 advantage at the 7:39 mark.

 Back-to-back Assumption goals by Ross White and Kyle Zobler would put the Greyhounds up 3-2, and a TJ Bond (Nashua, N.H.) goal at the 16:33 mark would even the score at 3-3 entering the first intermission.

Assumption would take the lead for good at the 3:53 mark of the second period as a Pat O'Kane goal gave the Greyhounds the 4-3 advantage.  The Greyhounds lead would extend to 5-3 at the 5:18 mark on a goal by Joe Fimiani.  With 5:42 remaining in the period, SNHU's Craig Carbonneau (Medford, Mass.) would bring the score within one at 5-4. 

Meehan would notch the only goal of the third period with just 1:48 remaining in the game to solidify the 6-4 win for the Greyhounds.

O'Kane and White both finished the game with a goal and an assist, while the Greyhounds also saw assists by Nick Mattiello, Kevin Glanzman, Brennen Shaw, Mike Heyde, Taylor Larsen, Mike Looney, and Joe Arcieri. 

Berry led the Penmen with a goal and an assist, while Tyler Pascucci (North Reading, Mass.) totaled two assists.  Dane Caracino (Bedford, Mass.), Frank O'Connor (Arlington, Mass.), Christopher Weilandt (Ashland, Mass.), and Michael Settipani (Charlestown, Mass.) notched assists for the Penmen. 

SNHU goaltender Max Paluszynski (Moorestown, Mass.) totaled 25 saves in the loss for the Penmen, while Assumption goaltender Bobby Bowden posted 39 saves en route to the win.

Southern New Hampshire returns to action on Tuesday, when they travel to cross-town rival Saint Anselm College for a 4:00 p.m. Northeast-10 Conference matchup.
