RINDGE, N.H. - The Southern New Hampshire men's tennis team opened up season play this afternoon with a 9-0 sweep at Northeast-10 opponent Franklin Pierce University. The match would mark the season debut for both teams.

The first and second single matches were easy defeats as No. 1 single Mitch Dobek (Westfield, Mass.) defeated Franklin Pierce's Jared Taylor in two 6-1 sets, and No. 2 Mike Wallace (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) crushed Christopher Brewer 6-0 and 6-1.

The Penmen saw their best competition in the third and fourth singles matches when the Raven's No. 3 Drew Bennett took Jared Wright (Norwell, Mass.) to a tiebreaking set, but Wright would prevail with a 10-5 victory. No. 4 Brad Malenich (Sharon, Mass.) also struggled to get a rhythm going when he lost the first set 2-6 to Franklin Pierce fourth single Keith Bujak. Malenich would fight back to collect the second set win and continue to grab the tiebreaker set with a score of 10-8.

Southern New Hampshire's doubles would triumph over the Ravens with ease while Dobek and Wallace would take the first doubles match with a score of 8-3. Evan Eaton  (Winchester, Mass.) and Wright took the second 8-4, and Tim Hamilton (Hampton, N.H.) and Malenich won the third 8-1.

The Penmen return to action on Saturday, September 15 when they host Le Moyne College in a Northeast-10 action home opener at 11:00 a.m.
