Carroll Scores Late to Lift Women's Soccer to 1-0 Win

Box Score

EASTON, Mass. – Freshman Lexxi Carroll (Plainville, Conn.) scored with 1:10 remaining in regulation to lift the Southern New Hampshire University women's soccer team to a 1-0 win at Stonehill College in Northeast-10 action Wednesday afternoon.  The Penmen snapped a two-game slide with the victory and are now 5-3-1 and 3-3-1 in the NE-10, while the Skyhawks are now 3-2-2 and 2-2-2 in the league.

Carroll scored her first collegiate goal at the 88:50 mark when she collected a loose ball off a deflection in the box and fired it home past Stonehill keeper Amy Wheaton.

Stonehill nearly got on the board with just over eight minutes to go in the first half after it was awarded a penalty kick.  Penmen keeper Maggie Weldon (Manchester, N.H.) kept the game scoreless with a diving stop on Catherine Kelly's attempt.

Weldon made two saves en route to the shutout in goal for Southern New Hampshire, while Wheaton made nine stops for the Skyhawks.  The Penmen outshot Stonehill 24-9 while the hosts generated a 5-3 corner kick advantage.

Southern New Hampshire returns to action Saturday night when it travels to Assumption College for a 7:00 Northeast-10 contest.
