MANCHESTER, N.H. – Senior Kaleigh Roberge (Manchester, N.H.) scored in the 104th minute to lift the Southern New Hampshire University women's soccer team to a 2-1 double overtime victory over the University of Bridgeport Wednesday night at Larkin Field. The Penmen improved to 2-1 with the victory, while the Purple Knights, who were an NCAA Tournament participant in 2011, fall to 0-3 on the season.
In the second overtime, Roberge took a through ball from classmate Kasey Morrison (Hampton, N.H.) and found herself alone against UB keeper Julia Hansson. Roberge delivered a low liner from 15 yards past Hansson for the game-winner.
Morrison opened the game's scoring at the 37:41 mark to stake Southern New Hampshire to a 1-0 lead it held at halftime. She dribbled in alone on Hansson and after her initial shot was snuffed out her second effort found the back of the net. The Purple Knights tied the game at the 66:05 mark when Danielle Puddefoot knocked in a right-to-left crossing pass off the foot of Julia Colley.
Maggie Weldon (Manchester, N.H.) made four saves in goal for Southern New Hampshire, while Hansson also made four saves. Bridgeport outshot Southern New Hampshire 18-13 on the evening.
Southern New Hampshire returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Adelphi University in a 1:00 contest at Larkin Field.
