HOOKSETT, N.H. - The Southern New Hampshire ice hockey team defeated Stonehill College by a score of 5-3 in a Northeast-10 Conference game Saturday evening. The Penmen are now 4-12-2 overall and 2-3-1 in league play, while Stonehill is now 9-11 and 5-2 in the conference.

The Skyhawks would strike first halfway through the first period when Bryan Rooney would score his 11th goal of the season from Kevin Aufiero. The duo would connect again for the second Stonehill goal at the 8:42 mark to give the Skyhawks a 2-0 advantage over the Penmen heading into the second period.

Stonehill would not hold its lead for long as SNHU scored three consecutive goals to open up the second period. Casey Goll (Winthrop, Mass.) sparked the scoring when he notched his third goal of the season unassisted at the 16:22 mark. Zach Lubinski (Hudson, N.H.) would score just one minute after Goll to record his second goal of the season from Charles Wisniewski (Strongsville, Ohio). Jim Gabrione (Boca Raton, Fla.) scored the third goal of the stretch 27 seconds after Lubinski, to put the Penmen ahead of the Skyhawks 3-2.

Gabrione would notch his second goal of the game and seventh on the season at the 12:03 mark on a penalty shot to give SNHU a two goal advantage over Stonehill. However, Dana Borges would answer with a power play goal just a minute later when he scored his 14th goal of the season to make the score 4-3 to close out the second period.

Lubinski recorded his second goal of the game in the third period to put the Penmen ahead two and solidify the win.

Tyler Holske (Attleboro, Mass.) saved 25 shots in net for SNHU, while Matthew Palella turned away 33 shots for the Skyhawks.

The Penmen return to action Saturday, February 2 when they travel to Assumption College for a league game at 7:35 p.m.
