Hockey Falls to Franklin Pierce 5-3 in NE-10 Semi-Final

Box Score

WINCHENDON, Mass. – The Southern New Hampshire University ice hockey team saw its season come to an end as it was defeated 5-3 in a Northeast-10 semi-final game to Franklin Pierce University Saturday evening. The Penmen finish the season 7-15-2 while the Ravens are now 9-12-3.

The Ravens jumped out to an early lead halfway through the first period when Sean Dunn scored the first goal of the game to go up 1-0 on SNHU. The Penmen would head into the locker room at the end of the first period trailing Franklin Pierce by one goal.

Franklin Pierce did not look back as they scored three consecutive goals in the second period to push the lead to 4-0. The Penmen remained scoreless through the second period, but would come alive heading into the third.

Zach Lubinski (Hudson, N.H.) would put the Penmen on the board just 2:26 into the third period on an unassisted short-handed goal, but the Ravens would answer when Adam Dallaire scored just four minutes later to push the lead back to four goals. However, Lubinski would notch his second goal of the game from Michael Durelli (Wrightstown, N.J.) to cut the deficit to three goals, and a power play goal from Brian Troy (Ashburnham, Mass.) would cut the lead to just two goals. The Penmen could not convert again, and would fall to the Ravens 5-3.

Penmen goalie Tyler Holske (Attleboro, Mass.) recorded 19 saves in 35 minutes of action, while freshman David Letarte (Salem, Mass.) added 10 saves for SNHU. Dave O'Brien added 35 saves to the Raven defense en route to the win.

Franklin Pierce will advance to the NE-10 Conference Championship on Saturday, March 2 at Saint Anselm College.
