Chestnut Hill Too Much For Tennis

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The men's and women's tennis teams were defeated by Chestnut Hill Saturday afternoon. The men would fall to the Griffins by a score of 6-34, while the women would fall 7-2. With the loss, the men fall to 7-3 and the women are now 8-3 overall.

The Griffins would sweep SNHU in doubles play, but the Penmen would steal two wins in the singles matches.

Alena Mukdaprakorn (Hartford, Conn.) and Diana Vamvakitis (Wading River, N.Y.) would not the lone wins for the Penmen in singles play. Mukdaprakorn would take the No. 1 singles match when she defeated Ana Shcherbakova by a score of 7-6, 8-6, and 6-4. In No. 2 singles play, Vamvakitis would defeat Kelly Dennis for the second Penmen point.

3. OWENS, Axe/WILLIAMS-Mulesa, Ima (CHCW) def. Kirsten Jean/Jamie Hann (SNHU) 9-7

 

The men would take two singles matches and one doubles match from the Griffins. Juan Arango-Campo (Armenia Quindio, Colombia) defeated Yoann Pham in No. 2 singles play by a score of 6-1, 4-6, and 10-4, while Mike Wallace (Mount Vernon) rallied back after losing his first set to Anthony Moore, to win 6-2 and 10-6 in the number three singles match.

In doubles competition, Mitch Dobek (Westfield, Mass.) and Wallace would capture the lone doubles win at the No. 1 spot with a 9-7 win over the Griffins.

Both teams return to action today when at Queens College for a 12:00 p.m. match.
