NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The No. 3 Southern New Hampshire men's tennis team was defeated by top-seeded Merrimack College in the Northeast-10 Conference Championship match Sunday afternoon by a score of 5-1.
After falling behind 2-1 in doubles play, the Penmen were defeated in three singles matches as the Warriors took the victory.
Mitch Dobek (Westfield, Mass.) and Mike Wallace (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) earned the lone Penmen point on the day at No. 1 doubles with an 8-3 victory over Matt Lipinski and Matt Pronesti. The Warriors defeated SNHU in second and third doubles by scores of 8-3, and 9-7, respectively.
The first Merrimack point in singles play came at No. 4 after Chris Barhart, the championship's most valuable player, defeated Alex Mukdaprakorn (Hartford, Conn.) by scores of 6-0, 6-0, and Vince Bellino followed with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 5. Petar Golijanin clinched the win with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 6 over Evan Eaton (Winchester, Mass.).
Juan Arango-Campo (Armenia Quindio, Colombia) and Dobek were named among the All-Championship team along with Barnahrt, Golijanin, and Chris Toegemann from Merrimack.
