Box Score GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – In a rematch of last season's Northeast-10 championship contest, Southern New Hampshire University and Adelphi University battled to a 1-1, double-overtime women's soccer tie Saturday afternoon at Motamed Field. The Penmen now sit 2-1-1 overall and 0-0-1 in NE-10 play, while the Panthers are 2-0-1 and 0-0-1 in league action.
Southern New Hampshire jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 5:39 into the game. Ashley Jaskula (Palmer, Mass.) sent in a low cross from the right side to Morgan Branco (Norton, Mass.), who tapped it in for her second goal of the season. The Panthers notched the equalizer in the 26th minute, as Olivia Czavar collected a deflected pass off the foot of Victoria Antonino and put it home for her second goal of 2013.
Southern New Hampshire goalie Samantha Whittier (Sutton, Mass.) made six saves on the afternoon, while Adelphi counterpart Sam Whitney also recorded six stops. The Panthers outshot the Penmen 15-11, including a 10-3 advantage in the first half, and had nine of the game's 11 corner kicks.
SNHU opens its home schedule Wednesday afternoon when it hosts Queens (N.Y.) College in a 4:00 non-conference contest at Larkin Field.
