Box Score

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Southern New Hampshire ice hockey team defeated Franklin Pierce University by a score of 3-1 in Northeast-10 Conference play Tuesday evening. The Penmen are now 12-5-1 overall, and 4-1-0 in league play. The Ravens fall to 3-12-1, and 1-4-1 in the conference.

The victory marks the team's fourth straight, and second win over Franklin Pierce this season.

Goalie Tyler Holske (Attleboro, Mass.) held a shutout through the halfway point of the third period to lead SNHU to a win, and finished with 16 saves in net.

Three different Penmen scored in the victory. Jim Gabrione (Boca Raton, Fla.) recorded a goal and an assist, while Jay Sylvia (Acushnet, Mass.) and Joe Collins (Mansfield, Mass.) scored as well.

Gabrione struck first for SNHU in the first period, scoring his 12th goal of the season at the 12:03 mark, to take a 1-0 lead into the second.

Southern New Hampshire held its one goal advantage through the second period, and despite not scoring in the frame, the hosts outshot the Ravens 7-5.

Leading 1-0, the Penmen built on their lead early in the final period when Sylvia scored on a power play from Dane Caracino (Belmont, Mass.) and Gabrione to take a 2-0 lead on the Ravens at the 7:31 mark. But Franklin Pierce answered three minutes later with its first goal of the game from Aaron Baker to cut the lead to one at 2-1. However, Collins scored the final SNHU goal to take back the two-goal lead, and to secure the win with his 15th goal on the season with under five minutes to play in the game.

The Penmen return to action Saturday, January 25th when they go on the road to play Stonehill College in a conference matchup.
