Box Score COLCHESTER, Vt. – Host Saint Michael's College scored a pair of first half goals as it topped Southern New Hampshire University 2-1 in Northeast-10 women's soccer Wednesday afternoon at Duffy Field. The Purple Knights upped their record to 4-8-1 and 3-6-1 in the NE-10, while the Penmen are now 5-7-1 and 3-6 in the league.
Saint Michael's got on the board at the 15:13 mark when Amanda Shanahan scored her first goal of the season as she knocked home a header pass by Michaela Horne. Cassie Chernicki also recorded an assist on the play. The Purple Knights doubled the advantage in the 32nd minute when Allegra DiCesare recorded her first goal of the season, with Chernicki notching another assist.
The Penmen made it a 2-1 game with just under nine minutes remaining in regulation as Bridget O'Sullivan (South Grafton, Mass.) knocked home a corner kick off the foot of Alexa Poulin (Tewksbury, Mass.). SNHU nearly scored on another corner kick by Poulin with two minutes remaining, but a header by Olivia Parsons (Plymouth, Mass.) went off the crossbar.
Aubrey Ouellet played the first half in goal and made one save before giving way to Kaylee Sullivan, who recorded five stops. Autumn Scanlon (Waltham, Mass.) notched seven saves for Southern New Hampshire as the Purple Knights outshot the Penmen 12-11. The guests took all seven of the game's corner kicks.
Southern New Hampshire returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Pace University for a 3:30 Northeast-10 contest.
