MANCHESTER, N.H. – Brittany Barry scored with 3:13 left in the second overtime session to lift American International College to a 1-0 women's soccer victory over Southern New Hampshire University Saturday night at Larkin Field. The Yellow Jackets upped their record to 4-9-1 and 4-7-1 in the NE-10, while the Penmen are now 5-10-1 and 3-9 in the league.
With just under four minutes remaining, the guests were awarded a free-kick just outside the top of the box after a foul. Romina Bell lifted the kick to the far right post, and after a scramble in front of the Penmen goal, Barry knocked a loose ball in for her fourth goal of the season.
Moments earlier, Gabby Cappello (Andover, Mass.) had lifted a shot towards the Yellow Jacket goal, but her attempt was snuffed out by AIC keeper Samantha Tabak.
Southern New Hampshire's two prime opportunities came in the first half. Just over eight minutes into the game, Cappello lifted a shot that Tabak knocked off the crossbar and back into play, but a follow was pushed wide. Alyssa Balboni (East Longmeadow, Mass.) nearly got the Penmen on the board in the final minute of the first half, but her attempt was turned aside by Tabak.
Tabak recorded four stops en route to the shutout, while Penmen keeper Autumn Scanlon (Waltham, Mass.) made six saves. American International held a 19-10 shot advantage on the evening.
Southern New Hampshire closes out its home slate Wednesday night when it hosts Franklin Pierce University for Senior Night at 7:00 pm at Larkin Field.
