MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Southern New Hampshire University ice hockey team dropped a 2-0 decision to Saint Anselm College Tuesday evening in Northeast-10 Conference play. The Penmen are now 13-7-1 overall, and 5-3-0 in the conference, while the Hawks sit at 8-9-4 overall and 4-0-0 in the league.

Despite a total of six power play opportunities between both teams in the first period, neither team was able to get on the board, and took a 0-0 score into the first intermission.

The second frame mirrored the first with a combined five penalties, and what seemed to be a scoreless period as well. However, with 21 seconds remaining, Kevin Vanous put the hosts on the board with his eighth score on the season to give the Hawks a 1-0 advantage over SNHU heading into the third period.

The Penmen outshot Saint Anselm 11-6 in the third period, but were unable to connect to find the equalizer, and with under two minutes to play, goalie Tyler Holske (Attleboro, Mass.) was pulled for an extra skater advantage. But, Saint Anselm capitalized on the empty net, and with 1:05 remaining, Mark Meads built on the lead to secure the win at 2-0.

Holske totaled 14 saves on the night, while Nick Dries turned away 35 shots for the Hawks in goal. The Penmen outshot Saint Anselm 35-16 on the game.

The Penmen return to action Saturday, February 8 when they host Stonehill for their last regular season home game at 7:30. SNHU then closes out regular season play on the road with games at Assumption and Franklin Pierce.
