Men's Tennis Advances to Northeast-10 Final

GOFFSTOWN, N.H. – Second-seeded Southern New Hampshire University topped No. 3 seed Bentley University 5-1 in the semifinal round of the 2014 Northeast-10 Men's Tennis Championship Thursday afternoon at the Allard Center.  The Penmen, who advanced to the final for the third time in four years, improve to 17-5, while the Falcons likely see their season come to a close at 11-8.

SNHU, which is seeking its first-ever NE-10 tournament crown, will travel to North Andover, Mass. to face top-seeded Merrimack College in a rematch of last season's final Saturday at 1:00 pm.  The Warriors downed the Penmen 7-2 during the regular season.

Southern New Hampshire held a 2-1 lead after doubles action.  At No. 1, Mitch Dobek (Westfield, Mass.) and Mike Wallace (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) eased to a 8-3 victory, while at No. 2, Juan Arango-Campo (Armenia Quindio, Colombia) and Alex Mukdaprakorn (Hartford, Conn.) took down a 9-7 win in a back-and-forth match with Jimmy Rindo and Andrew Waddington.  Bentley's Chase Rosa and Sam Frye rallied for a 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles over Mark Dobek (Westfield, Mass.) and Evan Eaton (Winchester, Mass.).

The Penmen came out strong in singles play, taking the next three points to clinch advancement.  Mukdaprakorn made it 3-1 with his 6-1, 6-1 win over Rosa at No. 4, while Arango-Campo posted a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2 over Kamil Pilch.  Mitch Dobek clinched the match with his 6-3, 6-2 win over Rindo at No. 1.  Wallace also led his match 6-3, 5-1 when the contest was stopped.  The No. 5 and 6 singles matches were warming up, but never took the court.
