MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Southern New Hampshire University athletic department, through Peace Ball Action USA, recently donated soccer equipment to Light of Cambodian Children (LCC) in Lowell, Mass. In addition, rising senior Kenny Doublette (Port-au-Prince, Haiti), a forward on the Penmen men's soccer team, also donated a variety of soccer equipment as well.
SNHU was able to donate nearly 50 pinnies of various colors, along with 12 whistles. The effort was spearheaded by Kuni Watanabe, an SNHU student who served as an intern in the athletic department this past academic year. He has worked with Peace Ball Action USA on several occasions to send Penmen equipment and gear to several countries.
Light of Cambodian Children was established in 1998 to encourage underserved young people to seek higher education, become self-sufficient, and serve as positive role models in their communities. LCC serves the nation's second-largest Cambodian population in Lowell, many of them refugees from genocide in Cambodia.
Peace Ball Action USA, originally founded in Japan in 2011, delivers soccer balls and equipment to children who live in impoverished communities. The organization has delivered soccer balls and equipment to over a dozen countries as well as in the United States.
