Box Score MANCHESTER, N.H. – In an early-season battle of unbeaten women's soccer squads, Adelphi University bested Southern New Hampshire University 4-0 in the Northeast-10 Conference opener for both schools. The Panthers upped their record to 3-0 and 1-0 in NE-10 play, while the Penmen are now 2-1-1 and 0-1 in the league.
The Panthers took a 1-0 lead on Laura Gomez's third goal on the season at the 11:46 mark. Adelphi took a 2-0 lead in the 26th minute on Victoria Antonino's third goal of the season, while Samantha Lanza's strike from 25 yards with just over nine minutes remaining in the first half made it 3-0. The guests carried the 3-0 lead into the break.
Melissa Duarte scored for Adelphi off a free kick at the top of the box with just over two minutes remaining to make it 4-0.
Adelphi keeper Sam Whitney made two saves en route to her third straight shutout to open the season, while Penmen counterpart Autumn Scanlon (Waltham, Mass.) turned aside four shots as the Panthers outshot Southern New Hampshire 14-5. The visitors also held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks on the evening.
Southern New Hampshire returns to action Wednesday afternoon when it hosts LIU Post in a 3:00 contest at Larkin Field.
