Box Score

RINDGE, N.H. – Trailing 1-0 at halftime, Southern New Hampshire University scored three times in the second half to post a 3-2 women's soccer victory over Caldwell University in the first round of the Franklin Pierce Tournament Thursday afternoon at Sodexo Field.  The game marked the season opener for both schools.

Down at the half despite outshooting Caldwell 12-2, Southern New Hampshire tied the game 12 minutes into the second half, scoring three times in a span of 6:47. Alena Woodarek (Springville, N.Y.) scored on a give-and-go inside the six-yard box from Megan Hanna (Chelmsford, Mass.).  The Cougars reclaimed the lead 17 seconds later as Melissa Stec scored her second goal of the game.

Olivia Parsons (Plymouth, Mass.) tied the game just shy of the 60-minute mark when her free kick from 30 yards out on the left side found the back of the net.  Gabby Cappello (North Andover, Mass.) scored the eventual game-winner at the 64:37 mark from the right side of the box after taking a pass from Hanna, who picked up her second assist of the afternoon.

Stec scored the lone goal of the first half in the 33rd minute when she took a through ball from Natalie Migoya down the middle.

Autumn Scanlon (Waltham, Mass.) made one save for Southern New Hampshire to earn the win in goal, while Cougar counterpart Robin Franchi made 12 saves.  The Penmen outshot Caldwell 26-8 on the day.

Southern New Hampshire returns to action on Saturday when it faces Dominican (N.Y.) College in the second round of the Franklin Pierce Tournament at noon.
