Box Score

HOOKSETT, N.H. – Chris Hemhauser stopped 31 shots, including a combined 26 in the second and third periods to lead Assumption College to a 4-1, Northeast-10 Conference ice hockey victory over Southern New Hampshire University at the Ice Den on Saturday night. The Penmen move to 7-8-1 and 1-4 in league play, while the Greyhounds improve to 7-9 overall and even their conference record at 2-2.

Assumption broke through midway through the first when Alex Erban picked up a loose puck in the Southern New Hampshire zone and snapped a shot off the shortside post and into the back of the net for his eighth of the season.

Just over five minutes later, the Penmen knotted the score at a goal apiece. Senior Steven Berry (Ashburn, Va.) cycled the puck up the rightwing boards to junior Joe Collins (Mansfield, Mass.) at the point. Collins sent a waist-high shot through traffic, and freshman Kyle Valliere (Goffstown, N.H.) redirected it past the Greyhound netminder for his sixth of the year to make it a 1-1 game at intermission.

Assumption struck twice during the second with a pair of markers just over five minutes into the period. Brennen Shaw regained the Greyhounds' one-goal lead with 15:24 left to play with help from Erban and Brian Farrell before Brandon Bete gave the visitors a two-goal advantage 42 seconds later. After neither side was able to find the back of the net for the remainder of the second much of the third period, James Moore collected an empty netter with 54 seconds left in regulation to provide the final margin of victory for Assumption.

Freshmen Ryan Slatky (Manchester, N.H.) and Matthew MacInnis (Arlington, Texas) combined to make 28 saves in goal for Southern New Hampshire. The Penmen outshot the Greyhounds by a 32-29 margin, and each team enjoyed a 50-percent (38-of-76) success rate at the faceoff dot.

Southern New Hampshire is back in action on Tuesday when it makes the trip to Rindge for a 7:30 p.m. puck drop with Franklin Pierce University. Assumption returns to the ice on Sunday when it squares off with the Wentworth Institute of Technology in a non-conference tilt at 4:40 p.m.
