Box Score HOOKSETT, N.H. – Chris Tasiopoulos turned aside 29 shots, and six different student-athletes found the back of the net to lead Stonehill College to a 6-2 victory over Southern New Hampshire University in Northeast-10 Conference ice hockey action at the Ice Den on Sunday afternoon. The Penmen move to 8-9-1 overall and 2-5-0 in league play, while the Skyhawks improve to 9-4-3 and 4-0-1 within the confines of the Northeast-10.
Senior Casey Goll (Winthrop, Mass.) put Southern New Hampshire ahead early in the first with his second goal of the season. With the Penmen on the powerplay, junior Joe Collins (Mansfield, Mass.) worked the puck up the left wing boards to freshman Kevin Lorcher (Rouen, France). Lorcher then slid a pass over to Goll, who walked in to the top of the right wing faceoff circle and buried a slap shot to make it 1-0 with 14:47 left in the opening period. Stonehill responded with a pair of goals to close out the period, as Anthony D'Elia converted a powerplay opportunity to knot the score at a goal apiece before Garrett White gave the visitors a 2-1 edge at the first intermission.
The two teams would remain scoreless for the first half of the second period before the Skyhawks struck twice more. Thomas DePoalo pushed the Stonehill lead to a pair 9:20 into the stanza before Richard Harris made it 4-1 just eight seconds later.
The Penmen closed the gap to two goals just under three minutes later. Senior Bryan Wright (Reading, Mass.) cut the deficit to 4-2 when he collected a pass from Collins at the top of the left wing circle and fired a wrist shot to the top left corner with 7:53 to play in the middle frame. This would be the closest Southern New Hampshire would come, as Robbie Dorgan and Travis Army added single goals in the third period to provide the final margin of victory.
Collins notched a pair of assists to lead the Penmen offense, while freshman Matthew MacInnis (Arlington, Texas) stopped 42 shots in the setback. Dorgan tallied a goal and three assists for the Skyhawks, and Harris chipped in with a goal and two assists in the win.
Southern New Hampshire continues Northeast-10 play on Saturday, January 31 when it squares off with Assumption College at 7:35 p.m. Stonehill resumes its schedule on Tuesday when it hosts Oswego State at 5 p.m.
