BOX SCORE

When and Where: November 29, 2015 – Hooksett, N.H. (The Ice Den)
Score: Southern New Hampshire University 7, Daniel Webster College 2
Records: SNHU 3-6-1, DWC 4-4

Senior Paul Pirozzo (North Babylon, N.Y.) scored a pair of goals and assisted on two others to lead the Southern New Hampshire University ice hockey team to a 7-2 victory over Daniel Webster College in the consolation game of the 2015 Manchester PAL/Stovepipe Tournament at the Ice Den on Sunday. The Penmen improve to 3-6-1 overall while the Eagles fall to 4-4.

After Gavin Abbott staked the visitors to a 1-0 lead 1:38 into the first, junior Jay Sylvia (Acushnet, Mass.) brought Southern New Hampshire even with a powerplay goal just past the midway point in the period. Freshman Dylan Sobczyk (Buford, Ga.) collected the puck along the top of the left faceoff circle and worked it over to senior Jim Gabrione (Boca Raton, Fla.) at the top of the umbrella. Gabrione fired a wrist shot on goal that was initially stopped, but Sylvia was able to pounce on a rebound in front of the net to make it 1-1 at 12:05.

Less than three minutes later, Pirozzo tallied the first goal of his career to give the Penmen a lead they would never relinquish. Sophomore Matt McLelland (Reading, Mass.) picked up a loose puck deep in Southern New Hampshire's end and skated the puck through the neutral zone before sliding a pass to Pirozzo at the leftwing circle. Pirozzo made a move to the faceoff dot before rifling a wrist shot to the top right corner, giving the hosts a 2-1 edge with 5:04 to play in the first.

SNHU put the game out of reach in the second period as it used three powerplay tallies to extend its advantage to 5-1 through two. Pirozzo potted his second of the contest 7:45 into the middle period when he punched home a rebound off a Gabrione shot to make it 3-1. Just over four minutes later, freshman Artem Efimov-Barakov (Khimki, Russia) pushed the Penmen out front by three after he took a cross-ice pass from Sobczyk at the right faceoff dot and unloaded a shot over the glove of Morgan Hudson for his third of the season. Southern New Hampshire capped the scoring with 42 seconds left before the intermission when senior Anthony Laperriere (Winchendon, Mass.) took a feed from sophomore Kevin Lorcher (Rouen, France) at the left point and fired a wrist shot through traffic that beat Hudson high and to the glove side.

The Eagles trimmed the Penmen lead back to three with a shorthanded marker at 4:57, but another powerplay strike regained the four-goal lead just 25 seconds later. Pirozzo grabbed the puck from the left corner in the Daniel Webster zone, slid it to Efimov-Barakov at the right half-wall before he found McLelland in the middle of the blue line. McLelland drilled a wrist shot through a screen that tucked right underneath the crossbar and gave SNHU a 6-2 edge. Junior Devin Murray (Saugus, Mass.) provided the final margin of victory with 9:21 to go in regulation by redirecting a centering pass from Pirozzo to the short-side post for his first of the year.

Senior David Letarte (Salem, Mass.) earned his first victory of the 2015-16 campaign after turning aside 24 shots, including 10 in both the first and final periods.
