The Southern New Hampshire University women's soccer team downed Stonehill College 2-0 Tuesday night for its third straight win.
After a scoreless first half, the Penmen scored twice in the second half to pick up the victory. 3:37 after halftime, Alexa Poulin (Tewksbury, Mass.) sent a right-to-left corner kick into the box that was volleyed towards the goal by Olivia Parsons (Plymouth, Mass.). Trisha Luis (Lowell, Mass.) redirected the ball at the goal line for her team-leading fourth goal of the season.
Bridget O'Sullivan (South Grafton, Mass.) added an insurance goal in the 79th minute. After two shots off a corner kick by Gabby Cappello (Andover, Mass.), one that rang off the crossbar and another saves up high by Skyhawk keeper Jamie Block, O'Sullivan headed it home for her first goal of the season.
Autumn Scanlon (Waltham, Mass.) made five saves en route to her first shutout of the season, while Block turned aside seven shots.
Notes:
- SNHU outshot the Skyhawks 11-7 and took six of the game's eight corner kicks.
- At 5-1, the Penmen are off to their best start since 1997 when the program got off to a 6-1 start.
- Southern New Hampshire recorded its second straight shutout.
- The Penmen entered the NSCAA East Region rankings at No. 8 this week.
