Trisha Luis (Lowell, Mass.) scored with 1:05 left in the second overtime session as the Southern New Hampshire University women's soccer team opened its season Friday night with a 2-1 win over Caldwell.
Luis took a long pass from Gabby Cappello (Andover, Mass.) down the middle of the field, took a touch, then fired from the top of the 18 past Caldwell keeper Mary Kenzler.
The Cougars took a 1-0 lead with just over 10 minutes left in the first half when Remi Piccirillo scored off of a corner kick. Cappello tied the game just under seven minutes into the second half when she scored unassisted, coming down the right side and shooting from 15 yards out to the far left post.
Kenzler made seven saves, while Penmen counterpart Paige Salmon (West Hempstead, N.Y.) had three stops.
Notes:
- Southern New Hampshire outshot Caldwell 22-13, including 15-7 after halftime.
- The Penmen were whistled for 10 offsides in the contest, with the Cougars called for it just twice.
- The hosts held a slight 4-3 edge in corner kicks.
What's Next:
Southern New Hampshire returns to action Wednesday afternoon when it hosts Post University in a 4:30 contest at Larkin Field.
